wonderful color. it perks up a home like a magical snap of the fingers. whether it’s in small doses like a bright throw pillow, or dozens of them, adding color always changes the mood of a room — and with it the mood of its inhabitants, too. a little bold paint goes a long way too: take that old dresser and give it a coat of glossy, happy, colorful paint and it takes on a whole new life. i love all these spaces — somewhat scandinavian in flavor, each of them cheerful and bright and easy to create.

Looking at my photos you'd think I do nothing other than drive to and fro from one soccer practice/game to another. Well friends, you would be correct and Mother's Day was no exception. In fact, the middle child promised me a championship medal for mom's day and boy did he and the team deliver. Proud mama here for sure.
P.S.- here's a fun, new-to-me discovery for printing those ever-multiplying Instagram pics. I came across this easy to use app, Printicular, this weekend. It's billed as "the most convenient way to print your Instagram, Facebook, Flickr, Dropbox and Camera Roll at Walgreens." I picked up my first order today and love the fun 4 x 4 format. I feel a new addiction developing...so be forewarned.

Why Stranger Art is the Design Trend You Need to Try Now
By now, you’ve probably noticed this emerging trend: It seems like everyone who is anyone has a painted portrait in their house—featuring a stranger. And these quirky and charming faces can add a lot of character to your home.
If you want to take part in the party, check out online vintage shops like Chairish, Etsy and Everything But The House. You can certainly hunt down the perfect portrait at your local flea market, but these sites make the search a bit easier. You can even get get really specific about the type of stranger you’re hoping to find.

When I first started this blog it was called “The Brass Petal” because it combined my two favorite things – brass and flowers. But after I won DesignStar I figured it would be better to have it be my name (and Emilyhenderson.com was taken by a graphic designer- you’re welcome “Other Emily”). This is all to say that my love of brass and gold goes 10 years back. These days all metals are competing for most glamorous and matte brass is having a bigger moment. Now before you send all your shiny brass to the pawn shop and flood our comment area with “I thought you loved all brass, ” know that I still love polished brass, specifically unlacquered brass (for how it ages naturally and has a patina) but yes, matte brass is happening and we are into it.
It could be brushed or satin and I’m not talking about “aged, ” the brass we are talking about is bright and beautiful like it’s polished sister just less shiny, and it’s everywhere right now. While I do love an antique ornate frame or chandelier if you want to do this in a more modern way go for simpler shapes with less ornate detailing, carving, or fuss.
While this one may technically not be a residential living room, those matte brass chairs and tables are just too good not to include and is making us want to jump on the first flight to Milan to stay in this beautiful hotel.
